about Dr Shaun Matthews
Shaun is the founder and the co-ordinator of the Ayurvedic Medicine Department at Nature Care College in Sydney, Australia. He is a medical doctor, Ayurveda and Yoga therapist who specialises in the treatment of chronic illness using a holistic approach. Shaun has also trained in somatic or body-oriented psychotherapy, which like Ayurveda and Yoga, acknowledges the inherent wisdom of the human bodymind. He finds this combination of approaches to be complementary in nature and extremely effective in managing all types of chronic disease and in the promotion of wellbeing. He has a special interest in Ayurvedic approaches to rejuvenation and ageing well. Shaun was an associate lecturer at the University of New South Wales from 1992–2005 where he taught first and second year medical students how to better communicate with their patients. From 1998 til 2002 Shaun gave the annual lecture on Complementary Medicine to first year medicine. Shaun was on the organising committee for the first and second International Ayurveda and Yoga Conferences held in Sydney in 2006 and 2009 respectively. Since 1993 Shaun has been running Ayurvedic cooking classes in Sydney with his friend, Tim Mitchell, a gifted Ayurvedic chef. Shaun also runs regular courses in meditation, Ayurvedic psychology and Yoga therapy and runs a Certificate Course in Ayurvedic Healing through Three Realms Yoga in Sydney. He is in private practice at Bondi Road Doctors in Sydney.
