your first class . your first visit . class descriptions . specific health issues

your first class
The following recommendations will make your first yoga class more enjoyable:

  • Don’t eat two hours before class.
  • Wear comfortable clothing.
  • Don’t wear strong scents or perfume.
  • Arrive 10–15 minutes before class.
  • Store your shoes and gear in at the back of the space.
  • Valuables can be with you at your mat if you like.
  • Turn off your mobile phone.
  • Advise your teacher if you have any injuries, health conditions or if you are pregnant.
  • Not all poses are for everyone. If a posture feels painful or not right, come out of it and let the teacher know.
  • Yoga is not a competitive activity. Don’t worry about what the person next to you is doing.
  • Yoga is a path of self-discovery through inquiry and experience. The process and not the outcome is what is important.
  • Keep it light. Keep a sense of humour about yourself and your practice.

your first visit
Arrive about 15 minutes early to meet the teacher, fill in a health form, and get comfortable in the space and on your mat.

All students are asked to fill in a health form. You can either download it or fill it out in the studio. If you have any injuries or health issues the teacher will suggest variations or modifications to ensure you get the most from your practice.

class descriptions
To receive the most benefit from your yoga practice, it’s important to choose an appropriate class. This will depend on your age and stage in life, your lifestyle and your physical, mental and spiritual needs.

Our hatha yoga classes vary in intensity and focus. Read the following class descriptions to choose a suitable class. Our teachers will give you an insight into each teacher's background, practice and focus.

hatha yoga
Learn to give attention to your body, mind and breath as you work through traditional hatha yoga postures (āsanas), breath awareness (prānāyāma) and relaxation techniques. We encourage you to tune into your body and discover what is right for you. This can be profoundly calming, relaxing and meditative. Suitable for beginner and general level students.

We also offer beginners yoga courses that provide a more systematic approach to learning the principles of hatha yoga.

hatha vinyasa
This is a flowing class to liberate and unwind you physically and mentally and take you to that space which is your Self. Postures are staged so that you may work at your own level. We give focus to your alignment and keep you coming back to the breath. This class includes chanting, āsana, prānāyāma, meditation and insights from various yogic texts. Suitable for general level students.

hatha mindful
This is a hatha yoga class with a focus on self-inquiry and observation of one’s own practice and bodymind entity. There are fewer postures and more explorations in the postures using insights from the mindfulness traditions. Movement flows into stillness and the class closes with breathing, relaxation, yoga nidra or meditation. Suitable for beginner and general level students.

hatha relax
A busy life, late nights, poor quality sleep and not enough time for rest and relaxation, all culminate in physical and mental stress and anxiety. Relax your whole body with yoga postures, slow down and smooth out your breath, calm and clear your mind. Finish off with yoga nidra (a deep relaxation exercise) - you will not want to get up off the mat. This class is an excellent preparation for a restful slumber. Suitable for beginner and general level students.
